George Donchez Jr. of Bethlehem knew all these things and more. A serious collector and otherworldly reader, George would be transported into the love of his pastime on a daily basis…and he never had to leave his house to do it. From the hundreds of serial radio broadcasts (that would be replayed through collectible antique radios), to the old pulp magazines, to viewing the hundreds of statues and collectibles from the Wizard of OZ, George Donchez Jr. immersed himself in the worlds he loved. 1930’s hardcover novels, Pulps, Big little books, Golden Age Comics and Magazines, War periodicals, Games, Toys, Wizard of OZ, Press sheets, movie posters, Hollywood pinups, and a Western Americana collection to die for. The story of George Donchez Jr. can be told through the eyes of his collection.
George Donchez Jr., 75, of Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011. He served his country in the US Army. George worked for was retired from Bethlehem Area School District after having worked in the Maintenance Department. Harry Kerch, owner of ComicMasters in Whitehall and the Estate holder of George Donchez’s collection called Donchez “Beyond an avid collector. It's really amazing to know there are collector's like this living right next door”.
